For years, most of the summer sunrises saw my uncle and I out hitting before work began for the day. He drilled my serve, critiqued my back hand and offered footwork advice. These are some of my favorite memories.

That’s how I know tennis doesn’t just extend to the back fence. Tennis was how I spent time with family, learned to work, and served in my community.

Tennis won’t mean the same thing to everyone, but giving Cache Valley’s youth the opportunity to experience a bit of the joy this sport has given me is the goal of my coaching. The relationships built, the tenacity developed, or the skills learned are welcome bonuses to playing the beautiful game.

When I was 14, I smashed my tennis racket after losing a key point in an important match. I was frustrated—and everyone could see it.

After the match, my dad pulled me aside and made it clear: if I couldn’t control my emotions, I wouldn’t be playing tennis anymore. That moment stuck with me, and it changed the way I approached my game and my life.

I’ve been playing tennis now for 18 years. I believe tennis is more than just a sport—it’s one of the best ways to build discipline, resilience, and confidence. Learning to compete, handle pressure, and stay composed are skills that carry far beyond the court.

I’m proud to be coaching the next generation of players in Cache Valley and helping them develop skills they’ll carry for life.
